1 Mas um certo homem chamado Ananias, com Sapphira sua esposa, vendeu uma possessão,
2 e reteve parte do preço, sua esposa também tendo conhecimento disso, depois trouxe uma certa parte e a colocou aos pés dos apóstolos.
3 Mas Pedro disse: “Ananias, por que Satanás encheu seu coração para mentir ao Espírito Santo e para reter parte do preço da terra?
4 Enquanto você a guardou, ela não continuou sendo sua? Depois que foi vendida, não estava em seu poder? Como você concebeu esta coisa em seu coração? Você não mentiu aos homens, mas a Deus”.
5 Ananias, ao ouvir estas palavras, caiu e morreu. Um grande medo veio sobre todos os que ouviram estas coisas.
6 Os jovens se levantaram e o embrulharam, e o levaram para fora e o enterraram.
7 Cerca de três horas depois, sua esposa, sem saber o que havia acontecido, entrou.
8 Peter respondeu-lhe: “Diga-me se você vendeu a terra por tanto”. Ela disse: “Sim, por tanto”.
9 Mas Peter lhe perguntou: “Como é que vocês concordaram em tentar o Espírito do Senhor? Eis que os pés daqueles que enterraram seu marido estão à porta, e eles o levarão para fora”.
10 Ela caiu imediatamente a seus pés e morreu. Os jovens entraram e a encontraram morta, a carregaram e a enterraram por seu marido.
11 Um grande medo veio sobre toda a assembléia e sobre todos os que ouviram estas coisas.
12 Pelas mãos dos apóstolos foram feitos muitos sinais e maravilhas entre o povo. Todos eles estavam de acordo no alpendre de Salomão.
13 Nenhum dos demais ousou juntar-se a eles; entretanto, o povo os homenageou.
14 Mais crentes foram acrescentados ao Senhor, multidões tanto de homens quanto de mulheres.
15 Eles até levaram os doentes para as ruas e os colocaram em berços e colchões, para que, quando Pedro aparecesse, pelo menos sua sombra pudesse ofuscar alguns deles.
16 A multidão também veio das cidades ao redor de Jerusalém, trazendo doentes e atormentados por espíritos impuros; e todos eles foram curados.
17 Mas o sumo sacerdote levantou-se, e todos aqueles que estavam com ele (que é a seita dos saduceus), e ficaram cheios de ciúmes
18 e impuseram as mãos sobre os apóstolos, depois os colocaram sob custódia pública.
19 Mas um anjo do Senhor abriu as portas da prisão à noite, trouxe-os para fora e disse:
20 “Vá de pé e fale no templo ao povo todas as palavras desta vida”.
21 Quando ouviram isto, entraram no templo sobre o amanhecer e ensinaram. Mas o sumo sacerdote e aqueles que estavam com ele vieram e convocaram o conselho, com todo o senado dos filhos de Israel, e os mandaram para a prisão para que os trouxessem.
22 Mas os oficiais que vieram não os encontraram na prisão. Eles voltaram e relataram,
23 “Encontramos a prisão fechada e trancada, e os guardas de pé diante das portas, mas quando os abrimos, não encontramos ninguém lá dentro”.
24 Agora quando o sumo sacerdote, o capitão do templo e os principais sacerdotes ouviram estas palavras, ficaram muito perplexos a respeito delas e do que poderia acontecer com elas.
25 Um deles veio e lhes disse: “Eis que os homens que vocês colocam na prisão estão no templo, de pé e ensinando o povo”.
26 Então o capitão foi com os oficiais, e os trouxe sem violência, pois tinham medo que o povo os apedrejasse.
27 Quando os trouxeram, eles os apresentaram ao conselho. O sumo sacerdote os interrogou,
28 dizendo: “Não lhe ordenamos estritamente que não ensinasse neste nome? Eis que vocês encheram Jerusalém com seus ensinamentos, e pretendem trazer o sangue deste homem sobre nós”.
29 Mas Pedro e os apóstolos responderam: “Devemos obedecer a Deus e não aos homens”.
30 O Deus de nossos pais ressuscitou Jesus, a quem vocês mataram, pendurando-o em uma árvore.
31 Deus o exaltou com sua mão direita para ser um Príncipe e um Salvador, para dar arrependimento a Israel e remissão dos pecados.
32 Nós somos suas testemunhas destas coisas; assim como o Espírito Santo, que Deus deu àqueles que lhe obedecem”.
33 Mas eles, quando ouviram isto, foram cortados no coração, e estavam determinados a matá-los.
34 Mas um se levantou no conselho, um fariseu chamado Gamaliel, um mestre da lei, honrado por todo o povo, e ordenou que os apóstolos fossem expulsos por um pouco de tempo.
35 Ele lhes disse: “Vocês, homens de Israel, tenham cuidado com esses homens, com o que estão prestes a fazer”.
36 Pois antes destes dias Theudas se levantou, fazendo-se alguém; a quem se juntaram vários homens, cerca de quatrocentos. Ele foi morto; e todos, tantos quantos lhe obedeceram, foram dispersos e não chegaram a nada.
37 Depois deste homem, Judas da Galiléia se levantou nos dias da matrícula, e atraiu algumas pessoas atrás dele. Ele também pereceu, e todos, tantos quantos lhe obedeceram, foram dispersos no exterior.
38 Agora eu lhes digo, retirem-se desses homens e os deixem em paz. Pois se este conselho ou este trabalho for de homens, ele será derrubado.
39 Mas se for de Deus, você não poderá derrubá-lo, e será encontrado até mesmo a lutar contra Deus”!
40 Eles concordaram com ele. Invocando os apóstolos, eles os espancaram e ordenaram que não falassem em nome de Jesus, e os deixaram ir.
41 Por isso, partiram da presença do conselho, regozijando-se por terem sido considerados dignos de sofrer desonra pelo nome de Jesus.
42 Todos os dias, no templo e em casa, eles nunca deixaram de ensinar e pregar a Jesus, o Cristo.
