1 লোকদের তুমি মনে করিয়ে দিয়ো, তারা যেন প্রশাসক ও কর্তৃপক্ষের অনুগত ও বাধ্য হয় এবং যে কোনো সৎকর্মের জন্যই প্রস্তুত থাকে।
2 তারা যেন কারও নিন্দা না করে, কিন্তু শান্তিপ্রিয় ও সুবিবেচক হয় এবং সব মানুষের প্রতি যথার্থ নম্রতা প্রদর্শন করে।
3 এক সময় আমরাও ছিলাম মূর্খ, অবাধ্য, পথভ্রষ্ট এবং সমস্ত রকমের কামনাবাসনা ও সহজাত প্রবৃত্তির দাস। আমরা বিদ্বেষ ও ঈর্ষাপূর্ণ জীবনযাপন করতাম এবং নিজেরাও অন্যদের ঘৃণার পাত্র ছিলাম; আমরা পরস্পরকে ঘৃণা করতাম।
4 কিন্তু যখন আমাদের উদ্ধারকর্তা ঈশ্বরের করুণা ও প্রেমের প্রকাশ ঘটল,
5 তখন তিনি আমাদের পরিত্রাণ দিলেন, আমাদের সৎকর্মের জন্য নয়, কিন্তু তাঁর করুণার গুণে। তিনি নতুন জন্মের স্নান ও পবিত্র আত্মার নবীকরণের মাধ্যমে আমাদের পরিত্রাণ সাধন করলেন।
6 যাঁকে তিনি আমাদের পরিত্রাতা যীশু খ্রীষ্টের মাধ্যমে উদারভাবে সঙ্গে ঢেলে দিলেন,
7 যেন তাঁর অনুগ্রহে আমরা ধার্মিক সাব্যস্ত হয়ে অনন্ত জীবনের প্রত্যাশায় তাঁর উত্তরাধিকারী হয়ে উঠতে পারি।
8 এই উক্তি নির্ভরযোগ্য। আমি চাই, এ সমস্ত বিষয়ে তুমি গুরুত্ব দেবে, যেন ঈশ্বরের উপর যারা বিশ্বাস স্থাপন করেছে, তারা সতর্কভাবে সৎকর্মে আত্মনিয়োগ করে। এই বিষয়গুলি পরম উৎকৃষ্ট এবং সবার পক্ষেই লাভজনক।
9 কিন্তু বিচারবুদ্ধিহীন মতবিরোধ, বংশতালিকা, তর্কবিতর্ক এবং বিধিবিধান সম্পর্কিত সব ঝগড়া এড়িয়ে চলো, কারণ এসব লাভজনক নয় এবং নিরর্থক।
10 বিভেদ সৃষ্টিকারী ব্যক্তিকে একবার বা প্রয়োজন হলে দু-বার সতর্ক করে দাও। এরপর তার সঙ্গে আর সম্পর্ক রেখো না।
11 তুমি নিশ্চিতভাবে জেনো যে, এই ধরনের লোকেরা বিকৃতমনা এবং তারা পাপে লিপ্ত; তারা নিজেরাই নিজেদের দোষী করে।
12 আর্তিমা বা তুখিককে তোমার কাছে পাঠানো মাত্র নিকোপলিতে আমার কাছে আসার জন্য তুমি যথাসাধ্য চেষ্টা কোরো, কারণ সেখানেই আমি শীতকাল কাটাতে মনস্থির করেছি।
13 আইনজীবী সীনাকে ও আপল্লোকে তাদের যাত্রাপথে যথাসাধ্য সাহায্য কোরো, দেখো তাদের প্রয়োজনীয় সবকিছুই যেন তারা পায়।
14 আমাদের লোকদের সৎকর্মে আত্মনিয়োগ করতে শেখা উচিত, যেন তারা দৈনিক প্রয়োজন মেটাতে পারে এবং তাদের জীবন ফলহীন হয়ে না পড়ে।
15 আমার সঙ্গীরা সকলে তোমাকে শুভেচ্ছা জানাচ্ছেন। বিশ্বাসে যারা আমাদের ভালোবাসে, তাদের শুভেচ্ছা জানিয়ো। অনুগ্রহ তোমাদের সকলের সহবর্তী হোক।
