1 Faltavam agora dois dias para a Páscoa e a Festa dos Pães ázimos, e os chefes dos sacerdotes e os escribas procuravam como poderiam pegá-lo por engano e matá-lo.
2 Pois eles disseram: “Não durante a festa, porque poderia haver um motim entre o povo”.
3 Enquanto ele estava em Betânia, na casa de Simão, o leproso, enquanto se sentava à mesa, veio uma mulher com um frasco de alabastro de pomada de nardo puro, muito caro. Ela quebrou o frasco e derramou-o sobre a cabeça dele.
4 Mas havia alguns que estavam indignados entre si, dizendo: “Por que este ungüento foi desperdiçado?
5 Pois este poderia ter sido vendido por mais de trezentos denários e dado aos pobres”. Então, eles resmungaram contra ela.
6 Mas Jesus disse: “Deixe-a em paz”. Por que você a incomoda? Ela tem feito um bom trabalho para mim.
7 Pois você sempre tem os pobres com você, e sempre que você quiser, você pode fazer-lhes bem; mas você nem sempre me terá.
8 Ela fez o que pôde. Ela ungiu meu corpo de antemão para o enterro.
9 Certamente eu lhe digo, onde quer que esta Boa Nova seja pregada em todo o mundo, aquilo que esta mulher fez também será falado para um memorial dela”.
10 Judas Iscariotes, que era um dos doze, partiu para os sacerdotes chefes, a fim de entregá-lo a eles.
11 Eles, quando o ouviram, ficaram contentes e prometeram dar-lhe dinheiro. Ele procurou como poderia convenientemente entregá-lo.
12 No primeiro dia de pão ázimo, quando sacrificaram a Páscoa, seus discípulos lhe perguntaram: “Onde você quer que vamos e nos preparemos para que você possa comer a Páscoa?
13 Ele enviou dois de seus discípulos e disse-lhes: “Ide à cidade, e lá um homem carregando um cântaro de água vos encontrará”. Siga-o,
14 e onde quer que ele entre, diga ao dono da casa, 'O Mestre diz, “Onde está o quarto de hóspedes, onde eu posso comer a Páscoa com meus discípulos...””.
15 Ele mesmo lhe mostrará um grande quarto superior mobiliado e pronto. Prepare-se para nós lá”.
16 Seus discípulos saíram, entraram na cidade e encontraram coisas como ele lhes havia dito, e prepararam a Páscoa.
17 Quando era noite, ele veio com os doze.
18 Enquanto eles estavam comendo, Jesus disse: “Certamente vos digo que um de vós me trairá - aquele que come comigo”.
19 Começaram a ficar tristes e a perguntar-lhe um a um: “Certamente eu não?”. E outro disse: “Certamente não sou eu?”.
20 Ele lhes respondeu: “É um dos doze, aquele que mergulha comigo no prato”.
21 Pois o Filho do Homem vai como está escrito sobre ele, mas ai daquele homem por quem o Filho do Homem é traído! Seria melhor para aquele homem se ele não tivesse nascido”.
22 Enquanto comiam, Jesus tomou o pão e, quando o abençoou, partiu-o e deu-lhes, e disse: “Tomai, comei”. Este é o meu corpo”.
23 Ele pegou a taça e, quando deu graças, deu a eles. Todos eles beberam dela.
24 Ele lhes disse: “Este é o meu sangue do novo convênio, que é derramado por muitos”.
25 Certamente vos digo que não beberei mais do fruto da videira até aquele dia em que o beberei de novo no Reino de Deus”.
26 Quando tinham cantado um hino, foram para o Monte das Oliveiras.
27 Jesus disse a eles: “Todos vós tropeçareis por minha causa esta noite, pois está escrito: 'Eu baterei no pastor, e as ovelhas serão dispersas'.
28 No entanto, depois de ressuscitado, irei diante de vós para a Galiléia”.
29 Mas Peter disse-lhe: “Embora todos se ofendam, eu não o farei”.
30 Jesus lhe disse: “Certamente lhe digo que hoje, mesmo nesta noite, antes que o galo corra duas vezes, você me negará três vezes”.
31 Mas ele falou ainda mais: “Se eu tiver que morrer com você, não lhe negarei”. Todos eles disseram a mesma coisa.
32 Eles chegaram a um lugar que se chamava Gethsemane. Ele disse a seus discípulos: “Sentem-se aqui enquanto eu rezo”.
33 Ele levou consigo Pedro, Tiago e João, e começou a ficar muito perturbado e angustiado.
34 Ele disse a eles: “Minha alma está extremamente triste, até a morte”. Fiquem aqui e observem”.
35 Ele avançou um pouco e caiu no chão, e rezou para que, se fosse possível, a hora pudesse passar dele.
36 Ele disse: “Abba, Padre, todas as coisas são possíveis para você. Por favor, retire este copo de mim. Entretanto, não o que eu desejo, mas o que você deseja”.
37 Ele veio e os encontrou dormindo, e disse a Pedro: “Simão, você está dormindo? Você não poderia assistir uma hora?
38 Observe e ore, para que você não entre em tentação. O espírito está realmente disposto, mas a carne é fraca”.
39 Novamente ele foi embora e rezou, dizendo as mesmas palavras.
40 Novamente ele voltou e os encontrou dormindo, pois seus olhos estavam muito pesados; e eles não sabiam o que lhe responder.
41 Ele veio pela terceira vez e lhes disse: “Durmam agora, e descansem”. É o suficiente. Chegou a hora. Eis que o Filho do Homem é traído nas mãos dos pecadores.
42 Levante-se! Vamos embora. Eis que aquele que me trai está nas mãos”.
43 Imediatamente, enquanto ele ainda estava falando, Judas, um dos doze, veio - e com ele uma multidão com espadas e paus, dos chefes dos sacerdotes, dos escribas e dos anciãos.
44 Agora, aquele que o traiu lhes havia dado um sinal, dizendo: “Aquele que eu beijar, esse é ele”. Apreendam-no e o levem com segurança”.
45 Quando ele chegou, imediatamente veio até ele e disse: “Rabino! Rabino!” e o beijou.
46 Eles colocaram as mãos sobre ele e o agarraram.
47 Mas um certo daqueles que ficaram ao seu lado desembainharam sua espada e atingiram o servo do sumo sacerdote, e cortaram-lhe a orelha.
48 Jesus respondeu-lhes: “Vocês saíram, como contra um ladrão, com espadas e paus para me prender?
49 Eu estava diariamente com você no templo ensinando, e você não me prendeu. Mas isto é para que as Escrituras possam ser cumpridas”.
50 Todos o deixaram, e fugiram.
51 Um certo jovem o seguiu, tendo um pano de linho jogado ao redor de si mesmo sobre seu corpo nu. Os jovens o agarraram,
52 mas ele deixou o pano de linho e fugiu deles nú.
53 Eles levaram Jesus para longe do sumo sacerdote. Todos os chefes dos sacerdotes, os anciãos e os escribas se reuniram com ele.
54 Peter o havia seguido de longe, até chegar ao tribunal do sumo sacerdote. Ele estava sentado com os oficiais, e se aquecendo à luz do fogo.
55 Agora os chefes dos sacerdotes e todo o conselho procuravam testemunhas contra Jesus para matá-lo, e não encontraram nenhuma.
56 Pois muitos prestaram falso testemunho contra ele, e seu testemunho não concordava uns com os outros.
57 Alguns se levantaram e deram falso testemunho contra ele, dizendo:
58 “Ouvimo-lo dizer: 'Destruirei este templo que é feito com as mãos, e em três dias construirei outro feito sem as mãos'”.
59 Mesmo assim, o testemunho deles não concordou.
60 O sumo sacerdote se levantou no meio e perguntou a Jesus: “Você não tem resposta? O que é que estes testemunham contra você”?
61 Mas ele ficou quieto e não respondeu nada. Novamente o sumo sacerdote lhe perguntou: “Você é o Cristo, o Filho do Beato?”
62 Jesus disse: “Eu sou. Você verá o Filho do Homem sentado à direita do Poder, e vindo com as nuvens do céu”.
63 O sumo sacerdote rasgou suas roupas e disse: “O que mais precisamos de testemunhas?
64 Você já ouviu a blasfêmia! O que você acha?” Todos eles o condenaram a ser digno de morte.
65 Alguns começaram a cuspir nele, a tapar seu rosto, a bater-lhe com os punhos, e a dizer-lhe: “Profetiza! Os oficiais o golpearam com as palmas das mãos.
66 Quando Pedro estava no pátio abaixo, uma das criadas do sumo sacerdote veio,
67 e vendo Pedro se aquecendo, ela olhou para ele e disse: “Você também estava com o Nazareno, Jesus”!
68 Mas ele negou, dizendo: “Eu não sei nem entendo o que você está dizendo”. Ele saiu para o alpendre, e o galo cantou.
69 A empregada o viu e começou novamente a dizer àqueles que ficaram parados: “Este é um deles”.
70 Mas ele negou novamente. Depois de algum tempo, novamente aqueles que ficaram de pé disseram a Pedro: “Você é realmente um deles, pois é galileu, e seu discurso o mostra”.
71 Mas ele começou a praguejar e a jurar: “Eu não conheço este homem de quem você fala”.
72 O galo cantou pela segunda vez. Pedro lembrou-se das palavras que Jesus lhe disse: “Antes que o galo corra duas vezes, você me negará três vezes”. Quando ele pensou sobre isso, chorou.
