第 5 章：最后的恳求
因此，你们希腊人，来分享无与伦比的智慧，接受圣言的教诲，认识不朽的国王；不要把那些人视为屠杀整个民族的英雄。因为我们自己的主宰，神圣的圣言，现在仍在不断地帮助我们，他所渴望的不是身体的强壮和美丽，也不是世俗高贵的骄傲精神，而是纯洁的灵魂，被圣洁和我们国王的命令--圣洁的行动--所强化，因为通过圣言，力量充满了灵魂。啊，和平的号角，吹响战争中的灵魂！啊，驱除可怕激情的武器啊，熄灭灵魂天生之火的指令！圣言的影响不是通过造就诗人，也不是通过装备哲学家或熟练的演说家，而是通过它的教导，让凡人不朽，让凡人变成神，把他们从尘世带到奥林匹斯山上。来吧，接受教诲；变得像我一样，因为我也曾像你们一样。这些都征服了我--教导的神性和圣言的力量：因为就像一个熟练的蛇蝎心肠的人把可怕的爬行动物从它的巢穴中引诱出来并使它逃走一样，圣言也把我们感性天性中可怕的激情从灵魂深处驱赶出来；首先驱赶的是情欲，一切罪恶都是通过情欲产生的--仇恨、争斗、嫉妒、竞争、愤怒等等。一旦欲望被驱逐，灵魂就会变得平静安详。灵魂从深陷其中的弊病中解脱出来，回归造物主的怀抱。因为它应该恢复到它离开时的状态，即每个灵魂曾经或现在的状态。
