第 4 章：犹太人的其他习俗。
但是，关于他们对肉类的严格要求、对安息日的迷信、对割礼的吹嘘、对斋戒和新月的观念，这些都是完全荒谬和不值得关注的，我认为你们不需要从我这里学到任何东西。因为，接受上帝为人类创造的某些东西，认为它们是正确的，而拒绝接受其他无用和多余的东西，这怎么可能是合法的呢？妄言上帝，好像他禁止我们在安息日行善，这怎么不是不虔诚呢？以肉体的割礼为荣，以此证明自己是被拣选的，似乎因为割礼，他们就特别受上帝的爱戴--这怎能不令人啼笑皆非呢？至于他们记月记日，好像是依靠星星和月亮，按照自己的喜好安排上帝的安排和季节的变化，有的用于庆祝，有的用于哀悼--谁会认为这是神圣崇拜的一部分，而不是愚蠢的表现呢？那么，我想，你已经充分相信，基督徒应该远离犹太人和外邦人共有的虚荣和错误，远离犹太人的爱管闲事和虚荣自夸；但你绝不能指望从任何凡人那里了解他们崇拜上帝的独特方式的奥秘。
