DE WOORDEN VAN DE HEILIGE JUSTINUS: filosoof en martelaar, uit het vijfde deel van zijn Apologie:-Ik geloof dat voorspoed, o mensen, in niets anders bestaat dan in het leven volgens de waarheid. Maar we leven niet op de juiste manier, of volgens de waarheid, tenzij we de aard van de dingen begrijpen.
HET LIJKT EROP DAT ZE NIET BESEFFEN DAT IEMAND DIE VAN DWALING NAAR WAARHEID IS GEKOMEN DOOR HET WARE GELOOF: zichzelf werkelijk begrepen heeft, niet, zoals zij beweren, als zijnde in een staat van razernij, maar als zijnde vrij van het onstabiele en veranderlijke bederf van elke soort dwaling, door de eenvoudige en altijd identieke waarheid.
