1 ਜਦੋਂ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਏਲੀਯਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਵਾਵਰੋਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਚੁੱਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੀ, ਤਾਂ ਏਲੀਯਾਹ ਅਲੀਸ਼ਾ ਨਾਲ ਗਿਲਗਾਲ ਤੋਂ ਚੱਲਿਆ।
2 ਤਦ ਏਲੀਯਾਹ ਨੇ ਅਲੀਸ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਤੂੰ ਇੱਥੇ ਠਹਿਰ ਜਾ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਬੈਤਏਲ ਤੱਕ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਹੈ।” ਪਰ ਅਲੀਸ਼ਾ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਜੀਉਂਦੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੀ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਜਾਨ ਦੀ ਸਹੁੰ, ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੱਡਾਂਗਾ!” ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਹ ਬੈਤਏਲ ਨੂੰ ਚੱਲੇ ਗਏ।
3 ਨਬੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਬੈਤਏਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਨ, ਉਹ ਅਲੀਸ਼ਾ ਕੋਲ ਆਏ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਕੀ ਤੂੰ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਕਿ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਅੱਜ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਿਰ ਤੋਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਚੁੱਕ ਲਵੇਗਾ?” ਉਹ ਬੋਲਿਆ, “ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਤਾ ਹੈ। ਚੁੱਪ ਰਹੋ।”
4 ਤਦ ਏਲੀਯਾਹ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ ਕਿ ਅਲੀਸ਼ਾ ਤੂੰ ਇੱਥੇ ਠਹਿਰ ਜਾਈਂ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਯਰੀਹੋ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਜੀਉਂਦੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੀ ਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਜਾਨ ਦੀ ਸਹੁੰ, ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੱਡਾਂਗਾ!” ਸੋ ਉਹ ਯਰੀਹੋ ਨੂੰ ਆਏ।
5 ਨਬੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਯਰੀਹੋ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਨ, ਉਹ ਅਲੀਸ਼ਾ ਕੋਲ ਆਏ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਕੀ ਤੂੰ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਕਿ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਅੱਜ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਿਰ ਤੋਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਚੁੱਕ ਲਵੇਗਾ?” ਉਸ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਤਾ ਹੈ। ਚੁੱਪ ਰਹੋ।”
6 ਤਾਂ ਏਲੀਯਾਹ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਇੱਥੇ ਠਹਿਰ ਜਾਈਂ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਯਰਦਨ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਉਹ ਬੋਲਿਆ, “ਜੀਉਂਦੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੀ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਜਾਨ ਦੀ ਸਹੁੰ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੱਡਾਂਗਾ।” ਸੋ ਓਹ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਤੁਰ ਪਏ।
7 ਨਬੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਪੰਜਾਹ ਜਣੇ ਆਏ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਹਮੋ-ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਦੂਰ ਜਾ ਖੜ੍ਹੇ ਹੋਏ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਯਰਦਨ ਦੇ ਕੰਢੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਖੜ੍ਹੇ ਰਹੇ।
8 ਤਦ ਏਲੀਯਾਹ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਚਾਦਰ ਲਈ, ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਵਲ੍ਹੇਟ ਕੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਪਾਟ ਕੇ ਇੱਧਰ-ਉੱਧਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ, ਤਦ ਉਹ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਸੁੱਕੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਉੱਤੋਂ ਦੀ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਗਏ।
9 ਫਿਰ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੋਇਆ ਕਿ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ, ਤਾਂ ਏਲੀਯਾਹ ਨੇ ਅਲੀਸ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਲੈ ਲਿਆ ਜਾਂਵਾਂ ਦੱਸ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਕੀ ਕਰਾਂ?” ਅਲੀਸ਼ਾ ਬੋਲਿਆ, “ਤੇਰੇ ਆਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਗਣਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਹੋਵੇ!”
10 ਉਹ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, ਤੂੰ ਔਖੀ ਗੱਲ ਮੰਗੀ ਹੈ। ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਵੇਖੇਂ ਜਦ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਲੈ ਲਿਆ ਜਾਂਵਾਂ, ਤਾਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਉਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ, ਪਰ ਜੇ ਨਾ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਐਉਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।
11 ਤਾਂ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਦੇ-ਕਰਦੇ ਤੁਰੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਸਨ ਤਾਂ ਵੇਖੋ, ਉੱਥੇ ਇੱਕ ਅਗਨ ਰੱਥ ਤੇ ਅਗਨ ਘੋੜੇ ਦਿੱਸੇ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਵੱਖੋ-ਵੱਖ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਏਲੀਯਾਹ ਵਾਵਰੋਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਗਿਆ।
12 ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਵੇਖਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਅਲੀਸ਼ਾ ਉੱਚੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਬੋਲਿਆ, “ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਤਾ, ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਤਾ! ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਰੱਥ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਸਾਰਥੀ!” ਪਰ ਜਦ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਫੇਰ ਨਾ ਵੇਖ ਸਕਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਪਾੜ ਕੇ ਦੋ ਹਿੱਸੇ ਕੀਤੇ।
13 ਉਸ ਨੇ ਏਲੀਯਾਹ ਦੀ ਗੋਦੜੀ ਵੀ ਜਿਹੜੀ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਉੱਤੋਂ ਡਿੱਗੀ ਸੀ, ਚੁੱਕ ਲਈ ਅਤੇ ਮੁੜ ਕੇ ਯਰਦਨ ਦੇ ਕੰਢੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਖੜ੍ਹਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
14 ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਗੋਦੜੀ ਜਿਹੜੀ ਏਲੀਯਾਹ ਉੱਤੋਂ ਡਿੱਗੀ ਸੀ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਏਲੀਯਾਹ ਦਾ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਕਿੱਥੇ ਹੈ?” ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਪਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਪਾਟ ਕੇ ਇੱਧਰ-ਉੱਧਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਅਲੀਸ਼ਾ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਗਿਆ।
15 ਜਦੋਂ ਨਬੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਯਰੀਹੋ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਆਹਮੋ-ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਸਨ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਬੋਲੇ, “ਏਲੀਯਾਹ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਾ ਅਲੀਸ਼ਾ ਉੱਤੇ ਠਹਿਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।” ਸੋ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਲਈ ਆਏ ਅਤੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਤੱਕ ਝੁੱਕ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੱਥਾ ਟੇਕਿਆ।
16 ਤਦ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਵੇਖ, ਤੇਰੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਪੰਜਾਹ ਸੂਰਬੀਰ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣ ਦੇ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭਣ। ਕੀ ਜਾਣੀਏ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੇ ਆਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਚੁੱਕ ਕੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਪਰਬਤ ਦੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਜਾਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਖੱਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੁੱਟ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੋਵੇ?” ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਤੁਸੀਂ ਨਾ ਭੇਜੋ।”
17 ਪਰ ਜਦ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਜ਼ਿੱਦ ਕੀਤੀ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਸ਼ਰਮਿੰਦਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਭੇਜ ਦਿਓ।” ਸੋ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪੰਜਾਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਭੇਜੇ ਤੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਦਿਨ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਖੋਜ ਕੀਤੀ ਪਰ ਉਹ ਨਾ ਲੱਭਿਆ।
18 ਜਦ ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਆਏ, ਉਹ ਯਰੀਹੋ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਠਹਿਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਕੀ ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਆਖਿਆ, ਜੋ ਨਾ ਜਾਇਓ।”
19 ਉਸ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਅਲੀਸ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਵੇਖੋ, ਇਹ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਕਿੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਥਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਸਾਡਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਵੀ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਪਾਣੀ ਖ਼ਰਾਬ ਤੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਬੰਜਰ ਜਿਹੀ ਹੈ।”
20 ਉਹ ਬੋਲਿਆ, “ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਨਵਾਂ ਭਾਂਡਾ ਲਿਆ ਦਿਓ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੂਣ ਪਾ ਦਿਓ।” ਤਦ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਲਿਆਏ।
21 ਉਹ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਸੋਤੇ ਕੋਲ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੂਣ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਬੋਲਿਆ, “ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਇਸ ਪਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਠੀਕ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਅੱਗੇ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਮੌਤ ਜਾਂ ਬੰਜਰਪਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਵੇਗਾ।”
22 ਅਲੀਸ਼ਾ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਕੀਤਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਠੀਕ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਤੇ ਅੱਜ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਤੱਕ ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੈ।
23 ਉਹ ਉੱਥੋਂ ਬੈਤਏਲ ਨੂੰ ਉਤਾਹਾਂ ਤੁਰ ਪਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਰਾਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੁਰਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ ਤਾਂ ਕੁਝ ਮੁੰਡੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਨਿੱਕਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਮਖ਼ੌਲ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਚੜ੍ਹਿਆ ਜਾ ਗੰਜੇ ਸਿਰ ਵਾਲਿਆ ਚੜ੍ਹਿਆ ਜਾ ਗੰਜੇ ਸਿਰ ਵਾਲਿਆ।”
24 ਜਦ ਉਹ ਨੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਮੁੜ ਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਿਆ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਨੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਰਾਪ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਜੰਗਲ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਦੋ ਰਿੱਛਣੀਆਂ ਨਿੱਕਲੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਬਿਆਲੀ ਮੁੰਡਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਾੜ ਛੱਡਿਆ।
25 ਉੱਥੋਂ ਉਹ ਕਰਮਲ ਪਰਬਤ ਨੂੰ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉੱਥੋਂ ਉਹ ਸਾਮਰਿਯਾ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੜ ਆਇਆ।
