1 ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਨਾਥਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਊਦ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਭੇਜਿਆ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਆ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਇੱਕ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਨ, ਇੱਕ ਧਨਵਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਦੂਜਾ ਕੰਗਾਲ।
2 ਉਸ ਧਨਵਾਨ ਕੋਲ ਢੇਰ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਭੇਡਾਂ-ਬੱਕਰੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਮਾਲ ਡੰਗਰ ਸਨ।
3 ਪਰ ਉਸ ਕੰਗਾਲ ਕੋਲ ਭੇਡਾਂ ਦੀ ਇੱਕ ਲੇਲੀ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਨੇ ਮੁੱਲ ਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਲਿਆ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦਾ ਪਾਲਣ ਪੋਸ਼ਣ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਉਸੇ ਦੀ ਰੋਟੀ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਖਾਂਦੀ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕਟੋਰੇ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਪੀਂਦੀ, ਉਸੇ ਦੀ ਗੋਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੋਂਦੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਧੀ ਦੇ ਵਰਗੀ ਸੀ।
4 ਇੱਕ ਯਾਤਰੀ ਉਸ ਧਨਵਾਨ ਕੋਲ ਆਇਆ ਸੋ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਇੱਜੜ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਲ ਡੰਗਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਯਾਤਰੀ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਕੋਲ ਆਇਆ ਸੀ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਤਿਆਰੀ ਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਸਗੋਂ ਉਸ ਕੰਗਾਲ ਦੀ ਲੇਲੀ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਪਰਾਹੁਣੇ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਭੋਜਨ ਤਿਆਰ ਕੀਤਾ
5 ਤਦ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਦਾ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਭੜਕਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਨਾਥਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਜਿਉਂਦੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੀ ਸਹੁੰ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਵੱਢਣ ਜੋਗਾ ਹੈ!
6 ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਲੇਲੀ ਦੀ ਕੀਮਤ ਦਾ ਚਾਰ ਗੁਣਾ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਪਿਸ ਕਰੇ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਕੁਝ ਦਯਾ ਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ।
7 ਤਦ ਨਾਥਾਨ ਨੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਤਾਂ ਹੈ! ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਖਿਆ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਅਭਿਸ਼ੇਕ ਕੀਤਾ ਜੋ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਉੱਤੇ ਰਾਜ ਕਰੇਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਦੇ ਹੱਥੋਂ ਛੁਡਾਇਆ।
8 ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਦਾ ਘਰ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਤੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੀਆਂ ਰਾਣੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਬੁੱਕਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਅਤੇ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਦੇ ਘਰਾਣੇ ਵੀ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੇ, ਜੇ ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਥੋੜ੍ਹਾ ਸੀ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਵੀ ਦੇ ਦਿੰਦਾ।
9 ਸੋ ਤੂੰ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੀ ਆਗਿਆ ਨੂੰ ਤੁੱਛ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਕਿਉਂ ਬੁਰਿਆਈ ਕੀਤੀ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਤੂੰ ਹਿੱਤੀ ਊਰਿੱਯਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਮਰਵਾਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਮੋਨੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਮਰਵਾ ਸੁੱਟਿਆ?
10 ਸੋ ਹੁਣ ਤੇਰੇ ਘਰ ਉੱਤੋਂ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਕਦੀ ਨਾ ਹਟੇਗੀ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੁੱਛ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਹਿੱਤੀ ਊਰਿੱਯਾਹ ਦੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਬਣਾਇਆ।
11 ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਵੇਖ ਮੈਂ ਇੱਕ ਬੁਰਿਆਈ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਘਰ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਪਾਵਾਂਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਪਤਨੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਅੱਖੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਦੂਸਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਿਆਂਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਦਿਨ ਦੁਪਿਹਰੇ ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਪਤਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਗ ਕਰਨਗੇ।
12 ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਤੂੰ ਇਹ ਕੰਮ ਲੁੱਕ ਕੇ ਕੀਤਾ ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਸਰੇਆਮ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ।
13 ਤਦ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਨਾਥਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਮੈਂ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਪਾਪ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਥਾਨ ਨੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਪਾਪ ਮਾਫ਼ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੋ ਤੂੰ ਨਾ ਮਰੇਂਗਾ।
14 ਪਰ ਇਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਜੋ ਤੇਰੇ ਇਸ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੇ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਮੌਕਾ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸੋ ਇਹ ਬਾਲਕ ਵੀ ਜੋ ਤੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਜਨਮ ਲਵੇਗਾ ਉਹ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਮਰ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ, ਤਾਂ ਨਾਥਾਨ ਆਪਣੇ ਘਰ ਚਲਾ ਗਿਆ।
15 ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਬਾਲਕ ਨੂੰ ਜੋ ਊਰਿੱਯਾਹ ਦੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਤੋਂ ਦਾਊਦ ਲਈ ਜੰਮਿਆ ਸੀ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਬਿਮਾਰ ਪੈ ਗਿਆ।
16 ਸੋ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਬਾਲਕ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਤੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਵਰਤ ਵੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਤੇ ਸਾਰੀ ਰਾਤ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਤੇ ਪਿਆ ਰਿਹਾ।
17 ਉਹ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਦੇ ਬਜ਼ੁਰਗ ਉੱਠ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਆਏ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਉਠਾਉਣ ਪਰ ਉਹ ਨਾ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਰੋਟੀ ਨਾ ਖਾਧੀ।
18 ਤਦ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਜੋ ਸੱਤਵੇਂ ਦਿਨ ਉਹ ਬਾਲਕ ਮਰ ਗਿਆ। ਦਾਊਦ ਦੇ ਦਾਸ ਡਰ ਦੇ ਮਾਰੇ ਆਖ ਨਾ ਸਕੇ ਜੋ ਬਾਲਕ ਮਰ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, ਵੇਖ, ਜਦ ਉਹ ਬਾਲਕ ਅਜੇ ਜੀਉਂਦਾ ਸੀ ਤਾਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਨੇ ਸਾਡੀ ਗੱਲ ਨਾ ਮੰਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਜੇ ਹੁਣ ਅਸੀਂ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਆਖੀਏ ਕਿ ਬਾਲਕ ਮਰ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਨੂੰ ਕਸ਼ਟ ਦੇ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ!
19 ਪਰ ਜਦ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਜੋ ਦਾਸ ਆਪੋ ਵਿੱਚ ਘੁਸਰ-ਮੁਸਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤਾਂ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਜਾਣ ਲਿਆ ਕਿ ਬਾਲਕ ਮਰ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਸੋ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਕੀ ਬਾਲਕ ਮਰ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ? ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, ਜੀ ਮਰ ਗਿਆ।
20 ਤਦ ਦਾਊਦ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਠਿਆ, ਨਹਾਇਆ, ਸੁਗੰਧ ਲਾਈ, ਕੱਪੜੇ ਬਦਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਆ ਕੇ ਮੱਥਾ ਟੇਕਿਆ ਫਿਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਘਰ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਆਖਣ ਤੇ ਭੋਜਨ ਲਗਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਭੋਜਨ ਖਾਧਾ।
21 ਤਦ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੇ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਇਹ ਕੀ ਗੱਲ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ? ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉਸ ਮੁੰਡੇ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਜਦ ਉਹ ਜੀਉਂਦਾ ਸੀ ਤਾਂ ਵਰਤ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਰੋਂਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਪਰ ਜਦ ਉਹ ਮਰ ਗਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉੱਠ ਕੇ ਰੋਟੀ ਖਾਧੀ।
22 ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, ਜਦ ਤੱਕ ਉਹ ਬਾਲਕ ਜੀਉਂਦਾ ਸੀ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਵਰਤ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਰੋਂਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਮੈਂ ਆਖਿਆ, ਕੀ ਜਾਣੀਏ ਜੋ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦਯਾ ਕਰੇ ਜੋ ਇਹ ਬਾਲਕ ਜਿਉਂਦਾ ਰਹੇ?
23 ਪਰ ਹੁਣ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਮਰ ਗਿਆ। ਫਿਰ ਮੈਂ ਕਿਉਂ ਵਰਤ ਰੱਖਾਂ? ਭਲਾ ਮੈਂ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਫਿਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੋਲ ਲਿਆ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ? ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਜਾਂਵਾਂਗਾ ਪਰ ਉਹ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੁੜ ਆਉਣਾ।
24 ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਬਥ-ਸ਼ਬਾ ਨੂੰ ਤਸੱਲੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਗ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਇੱਕ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਜਣੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਲੇਮਾਨ ਰੱਖਿਆ। ਉਹ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਹੋਇਆ
25 ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਨੇ ਨਾਥਾਨ ਨਬੀ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਖ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਯਦੀਦਯਾਹ ਅਰਥ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਰੱਖਿਆ।
26 ਯੋਆਬ ਅੰਮੋਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਰੱਬਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਲੜਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉਹ ਰਾਜਧਾਨੀ ਲੈ ਲਈ।
27 ਫਿਰ ਯੋਆਬ ਨੇ ਦੂਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੂੰ ਆਖ ਭੇਜਿਆ, ਮੈਂ ਰੱਬਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਲੜਿਆ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਪਾਣੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
28 ਸੋ ਹੁਣ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਬਾਕੀ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਡੇਰਾ ਲਾਓ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਜਿੱਤ ਲਓ, ਅਜਿਹਾ ਨਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਜੋ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਨੂੰ ਜਿੱਤ ਲਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਦਿਆ ਜਾਵੇ।
29 ਤਦ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਕੱਠਿਆਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਰੱਬਾਹ ਉੱਤੇ ਚੜਾਈ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਲੜਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਜਿੱਤ ਲਿਆ।
30 ਉਹ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਦਾ ਮੁਕਟ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਤੋਂ ਲਾਹ ਲਿਆ ਜੋ ਤੋਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਤੋੜੇ ਸੋਨੇ ਦਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਹੁਮੁੱਲੇ ਪੱਥਰ ਲੱਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਨ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਦਾਊਦ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰਾ ਲੁੱਟ ਦਾ ਸਮਾਨ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕੀਤਾ।
31 ਤਦ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜੋ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਨ, ਬਾਹਰ ਕੱਢ ਕੇ ਆਰੀਆਂ, ਲੋਹੇ ਦੇ ਸੁਹਾਗਿਆਂ, ਲੋਹੇ ਦੀਆਂ ਕੁਹਾੜੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਕੰਮ ਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਟਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਾਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਅੰਮੋਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਇਹੋ ਹੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਤਦ ਦਾਊਦ ਅਤੇ ਸਭ ਲੋਕ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੜ ਗਏ।
