1 ਇਹ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੋਂ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਜੋ ਅੰਮੋਨੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਮਰ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਹਾਨੂਨ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ ਸਿੰਘਾਸਣ ਉੱਤੇ ਬੈਠਾ।
2 ਅਤੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, ਮੈਂ ਨਾਹਾਸ਼ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਹਾਨੂਨ ਨਾਲ ਦਯਾ ਦਾ ਵਿਹਾਰ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ, ਸੋ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਦੂਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਜ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਦਾ ਅਫ਼ਸੋਸ ਕਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਅੰਮੋਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਾਨੂਨ ਕੋਲ ਆ ਪਹੁੰਚੇ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤਸੱਲੀ ਦੇਣ
3 ਤਦ ਅੰਮੋਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਹਾਨੂਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਮਹਾਰਾਜ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਉਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਦਾ ਅਫ਼ਸੋਸ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਕੋਲ ਲੋਕ ਭੇਜੇ ਹਨ? ਕੀ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਕੋਲ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਏ ਕਿ ਖੋਜ ਕਰਨ, ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਦੇਸ ਦਾ ਭੇਤ ਲੈਣ?”
4 ਗੱਲ ਕਾਹਦੀ, ਹਾਨੂਨ ਨੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਫੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਦਾੜ੍ਹੀਆਂ ਮੁਨਵਾ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ, ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਸਤਰ ਅੱਧ ਵਿਚਕਾਰੋਂ ਲੱਕ ਤੱਕ ਫਾੜ ਸੁੱਟੇ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਪਸ ਭੇਜ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
5 ਤਾਂ ਕਈਆਂ ਨੇ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੂੰ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪੁਰਸ਼ਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਹਾਲ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਲਈ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਜਿਆ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਲੋਕ ਵੱਡੇ ਸ਼ਰਮਿੰਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਜਾ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ ਕਿ ਜਦ ਤੱਕ ਤੁਹਾਡੀਆਂ ਦਾੜ੍ਹੀਆਂ ਨਾ ਵਧਣ ਤਦ ਤੱਕ ਯਰੀਹੋ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹੋ।
6 ਜਦੋਂ ਅੰਮੋਨੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਦਾਊਦ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੁਰੇ ਠਹਿਰੇ ਹਾਂ, ਤਾਂ ਹਾਨੂਨ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਮੋਨੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਤੋੜੇ ਚਾਂਦੀ ਭੇਜੀ ਕਿ ਮਸੋਪੋਤਾਮੀਆ, ਨਹਰੈਮ, ਮਅਕਾਹ ਅਤੇ ਸੋਬਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਰੱਥਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਵਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਰਾਏ ਤੇ ਲੈ ਆਉਣ।
7 ਸੋ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਬੱਤੀ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਰੱਥਾਂ, ਮਅਕਾਹ ਦੇ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੈਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਰਾਏ ਤੇ ਲਿਆ। ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਆ ਕੇ ਮੇਦਬਾ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਡੇਰੇ ਲਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਮੋਨੀ ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਗਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੋਏ ਅਤੇ ਯੁੱਧ ਕਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਏ।
8 ਜਦੋਂ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਸੁਣੀ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਯੋਆਬ ਅਤੇ ਸੂਰਮਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਸੈਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਜਿਆ।
9 ਤਾਂ ਅੰਮੋਨੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਨਿੱਕਲ ਕੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਫਾਟਕ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਲੜਾਈ ਲਈ ਕਤਾਰ ਬੰਨ੍ਹੀ, ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਆਏ ਸਨ, ਅਲੱਗ ਮੈਦਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਨ।
10 ਜਦ ਯੋਆਬ ਨੇ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਦੋਹੀਂ ਪਾਸੀਂ, ਅੱਗੇ-ਪਿੱਛੇ ਲੜਾਈ ਲਈ ਕਤਾਰ ਬੰਨ੍ਹੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਚੰਗੇ-ਚੰਗੇ ਸੂਰਮਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਨੂੰ ਚੁਣ ਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਅਰਾਮੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਕਤਾਰ ਬੰਨ੍ਹੀ।
11 ਅਤੇ ਬਾਕੀ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਰਾ ਅਬੀਸ਼ਈ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਅੰਮੋਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਕਤਾਰ ਬੰਨ੍ਹੀ
12 ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, ਜੇਕਰ ਅਰਾਮੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਪਰਬਲ ਹੋਣ ਤਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕਰੀਂ ਅਤੇ ਜੇ ਅੰਮੋਨੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਪਰਬਲ ਹੋਣ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਆ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ
13 ਸੋ ਤਕੜੇ ਰਹੋ ਅਤੇ ਆਓ ਅਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਨਗਰਾਂ ਲਈ ਬਹਾਦੁਰੀ ਨਾਲ ਲੜੀਏ ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗੇ, ਉਹ ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਕਰੇ।
14 ਫਿਰ ਯੋਆਬ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਲੋਕ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਨ ਅਰਾਮੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਹਮਲਾ ਕਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਗੇ ਵਧੇ ਅਤੇ ਅਰਾਮੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੱਗਿਓਂ ਭੱਜ ਗਏ।
15 ਜਦੋਂ ਅੰਮੋਨੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਕਿ ਅਰਾਮੀ ਭੱਜ ਗਏ ਹਨ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਵੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਭਰਾ ਅਬੀਸ਼ਈ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੋਂ ਭੱਜ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾ ਵੜੇ, ਤਾਂ ਯੋਆਬ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੜ ਆਇਆ।
16 ਜਦੋਂ ਅਰਾਮੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਹਾਰ ਗਏ ਹਾਂ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਦੂਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਜ ਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਰਿਆ ਦੇ ਪਾਰ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਅਰਾਮੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਦ ਲਿਆਏ, ਅਤੇ ਹਦਦਅਜ਼ਰ ਦਾ ਸੈਨਾਪਤੀ ਸ਼ੋਫਕ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੈਨਾਪਤੀ ਸੀ
17 ਇਹ ਖ਼ਬਰ ਦਾਊਦ ਤੱਕ ਪਹੁੰਚੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਨੂੰ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਯਰਦਨ ਨਦੀ ਦੇ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਚੜਾਈ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਲੜਾਈ ਦਾ ਪਿੜ ਬੰਨਿਆ। ਜਦੋਂ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਅਰਾਮੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਲੜਾਈ ਦਾ ਪਿੜ ਬੰਨਿਆ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਯੁੱਧ ਨੂੰ ਜੁੱਟ ਪਏ
18 ਅਤੇ ਅਰਾਮੀ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੋਂ ਭੱਜ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਅਰਾਮੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਸੱਤ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਰੱਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਵਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਤੇ ਚਾਲ੍ਹੀ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਸਿਪਾਹੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਨੋਂ ਮਾਰ ਸੁੱਟਿਆ, ਸੈਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੈਨਾਪਤੀ ਸ਼ੋਫਕ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਜਾਨੋਂ ਮਾਰ ਮੁਕਾਇਆ
19 ਅਤੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਹਦਦਅਜ਼ਰ ਦੇ ਨੌਕਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਤੋਂ ਹਾਰ ਗਏ ਹਾਂ, ਤਾਂ ਦਾਊਦ ਨਾਲ ਸਮਝੌਤਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅਧੀਨ ਹੋ ਗਏ। ਅਖ਼ੀਰ, ਅਰਾਮੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਅੰਮੋਨੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਫੇਰ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ।
