Story Behind the Song
“And the Glory of the Lord” is a chorus from Part I of Handel’s oratorio Messiah. Charles Jennens compiled the libretto chiefly from the King James Bible and the Book of Common Prayer Psalter, and this chorus sets Isaiah 40:5. Handel composed Messiah in 1741, and the work was first performed in Dublin in 1742.
