About the Portuguese Bible

Where it's spoken. Portuguese is spoken by around 260 million people, with Brazil accounting for the vast majority. It is also official in Portugal, Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, São Tomé and Príncipe, and East Timor.

Translation history. The first complete Portuguese Bible was João Ferreira de Almeida's translation, completed in 1753. The Almeida Revista e Atualizada and the Nova Versão Internacional remain the most widely used translations today.
