We know we are only saved by grace, but just because we are saved by grace, because it will still be a gift in the end, none of us will ever deserve eternal life in the end, it doesn't mean that God does not require obedience. If we continue on in Exodus, we're going to see what happened to the Israelites, and Paul points to them. They got saved, you might say. They got out of Egypt, crossed the Red Sea, but they did not make it to the Promised Land because they disobeyed.
Not just once, but it was a whole wilderness, 40 years of disobedience.
