Rome Church: Faith, Martyrdom & Early Christian History

Short 656 views • Jun 26, 2025

Lesson Transcript

Well, here the church in Rome is saying, "You have such a wonderful reputation." So they obviously, when they were rebuked by Paul, they accepted that rebuke. They changed. You know, their reputation now, whatever, 30, 40 years after 1 Corinthians was written, was that they were this faithful church that everyone respected. And so it was a big shocking thing that they have this mutiny or schism, whatever you want to call it.

Another thing very interesting is that this is the earliest reference we have that Peter and Paul were both martyred. And apparently in Rome, although Clement doesn't say it was in Rome, he just mentions that they were both martyred. And this is the earliest reference to that. Join us in earnestly contending for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints.
