My wife grew up in a Christian home, a very good Christian home. And when I became 16, I became completely devoted to Christ in every way that I knew how. And I carried my Bible everywhere. I went to every kind of church service I could go to until my Church of Christ Christian Church pastor said, "That's not a good idea." I read all kinds of Christian literature. I didn't understand why there were all these conflicts between denominations, and I always wanted to figure out what was going on.
How did this stuff work? And then my wife and I went to Johnson Bible College, that became Johnson University. And we had church history classes. We had all kinds of New Testament classes. And we never heard of the head covering. We never—nobody ever told us or said anything about the head covering. We got married, and this is me with long hair. Obviously, I dishonored Christ. I did not know that. Nobody taught me that. I assumed Jesus had long hair, and I think he didn't.
