They were still following the letter of the law. They were keeping the Sabbaths and the holy days and the new moons. So how should we look at the book of Leviticus? Because the New Testament authors make it very clear that God does not require us to live by the law of Moses anymore. However, I don't know if the law in itself ever saved anyone. If they were missing the heart behind why the law was given.
