Blessed is the servant who does not regard himself as better when he is esteemed and extolled by men than when he is reputed as worthless, simple, and despicable. For what a man is in the sight of God, so much he is and no more. And if you think about that last one, isn't that so true? People who are prideful can be viewed as great in this world, but are they really great in the sight of God?

And if you think about when we were talking about the martyrs, the early Anabaptists, they were viewed as all as worthless, simple, despicable, but in the sight of God, they had value. And isn't that how we should be looking at humility? I would say that humility is the essential part of one's Christian walk. I would even say without it, can one truly follow Christ?
