Look back at this verse with me. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by what? His own desires. What comes first, the temptation or the desire? The desire is what comes first. So here you have the idea that you start off with your own desires, and the devil comes and he tempts you, and he makes your desire pregnant, and it conceives into sin. So God tells us that in the same way that desire is the root cause of war, desire is also the root cause of our sin. And this is both good news and bad news for us.
The bad news is that your sin is your fault, and the devil is not to blame. No one gets to heaven and says, "God, my hands are clean. I was tempted by the devil. Nothing's on me, God. I was tempted."
