Words by Natalie SleethMusic by Natalie SleethWritten 1976Tune JOY IN THE MORNING
There'll be joy in the morning on that day,
There'll be joy in the morning on that day,
For the daylight will dawn when the darkness is gone,
There'll be joy in the morning on that day.
Story Behind the Song
Natalie Sleeth was an American church musician and composer whose works were widely used in late-20th-century church choirs and hymnals. “Joy in the Morning” is a choral anthem/hymn with words and music by Sleeth, drawing especially on Psalm 30:5: “weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.” It has circulated both as published choral music and in congregational hymn resources.
