Story Behind the Song
This hymn originated with Les Petites Soeurs de Jésus, the Little Sisters of Jesus, a Roman Catholic community inspired by Charles de Foucauld. Stephen Somerville translated the French song into English, and it entered wide ecumenical use in the late twentieth century. Its text is a pilgrimage prayer, naming Jesus as the singer's song and companion through the journey of life.
