Story Behind the Song
“Give Thanks for Life” is a late twentieth-century hymn text by New Zealand hymn writer Shirley Erena Murray, often used for funerals, memorial services, and All Saints observances. The text gives thanks for mortal life, for the faithful witness of those who have died, and for Christian hope in resurrection. Wendell David Glick composed the musical setting used in the Into His Presence songbook.
