Come To The Water

Words by John B. Foley, S.J.Music by John B. Foley, S.J.Written Tune COME TO THE WATER

O let all who thirst,
let them come to the water.
And let all who have nothing,
let them come to the Lord:
without money, without price.
Why should you pay the price,
except for the Lord?

Story Behind the Song

“Come to the Water” is a late-20th-century Roman Catholic liturgical song by Jesuit composer John B. Foley, associated with the St. Louis Jesuits and the renewal of vernacular congregational song after Vatican II. Its text draws especially on Isaiah’s invitation to the thirsty and hungry to receive God’s gifts freely, and it has become widely used in communion, baptismal, and general worship contexts.
