Story Behind the Song

“Ukuthula” is a Zulu Christian prayer text whose repeated petitions name peace, redemption, praise, faith, victory, and comfort in a sinful world through the blood of Jesus. The best-known concert-choir version is a choral setting by South African conductor André van der Merwe. The traditional text reflects South African Christian choral practice rather than a standard English-language hymnal tradition.
