"Bless The Lord My Soul" Taize Music
Words by Taizé Community, based on Psalm 103Music by Jacques BerthierWritten c. 1984Tune BLESS THE LORD, MY SOUL
Bless the Lord, my soul,
and bless God's holy name.
Bless the Lord, my soul,
who leads me into life.
Story Behind the Song
This short meditative chant comes from the worship tradition of the Taizé Community in France. Jacques Berthier composed many such ostinato songs for Taizé, designed to be sung repeatedly in multilingual prayer with optional psalm verses. This setting draws on Psalm 103's call to bless the Lord and remember God's mercy and life-giving grace.
