Story Behind the Song

Lux Aurumque is a contemporary choral work by Eric Whitacre, composed in 2000. The text began as Edward Esch's short English poem Light and Gold, which Charles Anthony Silvestri translated into Latin for Whitacre's setting. It became one of Whitacre's best-known sacred-style choral works and was later featured prominently in his Virtual Choir project.
