Baba Yetu
Words by Traditional Lord's Prayer; Swahili adaptation by Chris KiagiriMusic by Christopher TinWritten 2005
Baba yetu, yetu uliye
Mbinguni yetu, yetu, amina!
Baba yetu, yetu uliye
Jina lako litukuzwe
Utupe leo chakula chetu
Tunachohitaji, utusamehe
Makosa yetu, hey!
Kama nasi tunavyowasamehe
Waliotukosea
Story Behind the Song
“Baba Yetu” is Christopher Tin’s choral setting of the Lord’s Prayer in Swahili, with the Swahili adaptation credited to Chris Kiagiri. It was originally written for the 2005 video game Sid Meier’s Civilization IV and later appeared on Tin’s album Calling All Dawns. In 2011 it became notable as the first piece of music written for a video game to win a Grammy Award.
