About the New King James Version: The NKJV was commissioned in 1975 by Thomas Nelson Publishers; about 130 scholars worked seven years to complete it (published 1982). It modernizes the King James Version's vocabulary — replacing thee, thou, and archaic verb endings — while deliberately keeping the KJV's underlying Hebrew (Masoretic) and Greek (Textus Receptus) base texts and much of its cadence.
