Hi, I'm Paul Brown. For the next few hours I'll be reading "Common Sense: A New Approach to Understanding Scripture" by David Bercot, hopefully in the same spirit of love, unity, and integrity that comes across to me when I read it. David has strengthened my love for God and others by teaching that the essence of biblical and historical Christianity is abiding in an obedient, love-faith relationship with Jesus Christ.
This book presents the most clear, comprehensive, and honest way to read and study the Scriptures that I have seen. But please don't imagine that what you're about to read are merely David's own innovations about how to interpret the Bible. Rather, this book sets forth, in a clear and honest manner, the objective principles that we naturally use to understand a document.
That also happens to be the same childlike literal way in which the original recipients of the Scriptures understood them, as opposed to the inconsistent theological techniques that are used by modern-day Bible scholars to defend their various theological positions.
So in that respect, "Common Sense" really isn't "a new approach to understanding Scripture," but rather it's somewhat new-sounding to our modern ears to approach Scripture interpretation in an objective manner in which we accept our findings and their implications in a trusting, childlike way, regardless of their impact on our previously held beliefs and lifestyles. I hope that you are as challenged and encouraged by this book as I am.
