Talk About a Child
Words by Traditional African American spiritualMusic by Traditional African American spiritual
Talk about a child that do love Jesus,
Here’s one, here’s one;
Talk about a child that do love Jesus,
Here’s one, here’s one.
Ever since I heard the gospel story,
I’ve been walking up the road to glory;
Talk about a child that do love Jesus,
Here’s one, here’s one.
Story Behind the Song
“Talk About a Child” is a traditional African American spiritual, often known by the fuller opening line “Talk about a child that do love Jesus.” Like many spirituals, it was preserved through oral tradition and exists in multiple textual and musical variants. Modern choirs commonly sing it in arranged concert settings, including arrangements by contemporary church-music and choral arrangers.
