Lux Aeterna
Words by Traditional Latin liturgy, from the Requiem MassMusic by Brian A. Schmidt
Lux aeterna luceat eis, Domine,
cum sanctis tuis in aeternum,
quia pius es.
Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine,
et lux perpetua luceat eis.
Cum sanctis tuis in aeternum,
quia pius es.
Story Behind the Song
Brian A. Schmidt's Lux Aeterna is a contemporary choral setting of the traditional Latin Communion antiphon from the Mass for the Dead. The text prays that eternal light and eternal rest may be granted to the departed, a theme long associated with Requiem liturgy. It is not a congregational hymn with a standard hymn tune, but a composed sacred choral work.
