I'm Gonna Sing

Words by Traditional African American spiritualMusic by Traditional African American spiritual

I'm gonna sing till the Spirit moves in my heart,
I'm gonna sing till Jesus comes.
I'm gonna sing till the Spirit moves in my heart,
I'm gonna sing till Jesus comes.

I'm gonna pray till the Spirit moves in my heart,
I'm gonna pray till Jesus comes.
I'm gonna pray till the Spirit moves in my heart,
I'm gonna pray till Jesus comes.

I'm gonna shout till the Spirit moves in my heart,
I'm gonna shout till Jesus comes.
I'm gonna shout till the Spirit moves in my heart,
I'm gonna shout till Jesus comes.

Story Behind the Song

"I'm Gonna Sing" is a traditional African American spiritual, commonly encountered in choral literature under the fuller title "I'm Gonna Sing 'Til the Spirit Moves in My Heart." Moses Hogan's late-20th-century concert arrangement helped make the spiritual widely known among church, school, and festival choirs. The song belongs to the call-and-response, repetition-based spiritual tradition rather than to a single identifiable author or composer.
