Story Behind the Song
The text is the Latin petition “grant us peace,” taken from the Agnus Dei of the Mass. The familiar three-part canon has circulated widely as a simple prayer for peace and is often printed in hymnals and songbooks. Many choral editions attribute it to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, but that attribution is commonly treated as uncertain or disputed in modern references.
