Story Behind the Song

The Swedish hymn "Tryggare kan ingen vara" was written by Carolina Sandell Berg, often known as Lina Sandell, one of the best-loved hymn writers in the Scandinavian Lutheran tradition. Ernst W. Olson made the widely used English translation, "Children of the Heavenly Father," in 1925. The hymn is often associated with comfort in bereavement and trust in God's providence, though it predates the frequently cited drowning death of Sandell's father.
