Bible Verses About Matins And Morning Prayer

Early Christian writers did support morning prayer, and some linked it to Jesus’ resurrection and to regular daily prayer. Cyprian says Christians should pray in the morning, and the Apostolic Constitutions and Tertullian treat morning prayer as part of a broader pattern of set prayer times. Clement of Alexandria also connects prayer with sunrise, while Mark 1:35 and Psalms 5:3 give strong biblical support for praying early.

The evidence is broad for morning prayer in general, but it is mixed for a fixed later office of matins as a formal church service, since many texts speak more about habits, hours, and vigilance than about a single named liturgy.
