Bible Verses About Ham And Noah's Family

Early Christian writers clearly taught that Noah had three sons—Shem, Ham, and Japheth—and that all of their families came from the ark after the flood. Justin Martyr, Theophilus of Antioch, Hippolytus, Cyprian, Irenaeus, and the Apostolic Constitutions all repeat this family line, usually with Genesis 7, 8, 9, or 10 in view. They also commonly read the curse on Canaan as a judgment tied to Ham’s sin and as a lesson about family order and punishment, though the exact wording and emphasis vary.

Some writers used Noah’s family mainly for typology, especially as a picture of salvation through the ark or of Christ, so those uses are secondary rather than the main answer. Overall, the witness is broad and steady, with direct teaching about Noah’s family being strong and typological use being common but separate.
