And the angel of the Lord said to her, Behold, thou art with child, and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael, for the Lord hath hearkened to thy humiliation.

And Leah conceived and bore a son to Jacob; and she called his name, Reuben; saying, Because the Lord has looked on my humiliation, and has given me a son, now then my husband will love me.

Unless I had the God of my father Abraham, and the fear of Isaac, now thou wouldest have sent me away empty; God saw my humiliation, and the labor of my hands, and rebuked thee yesterday.

and we cried to the Lord our God, and the Lord heard our voice, and saw our humiliation, and our labor, and our affliction.

At this time tomorrow I will send to thee a man out of the land of Benjamin, and thou shalt anoint him to be ruler over my people Israel, and he shall save my people out of the hand of the Philistines; for I have looked upon the humiliation of my people, for their cry is come unto me.

If by any means the Lord may look on my affliction, thus shall he return me good for his cursing this day.

For the Lord saw that the affliction of Israel was very bitter, and that they were few in number, straitened and in want, and destitute, and Israel had no helper.

Have mercy upon me, O Lord; look upon my affliction which I suffer of mine enemies, Thou that liftest me up from the gates of death:

He will bow down and fall when he has mastered the poor.

Save me from the lion’s mouth; And regard my lowliness from the horns of the unicorns.

Look upon mine affliction and my trouble; And forgive all my sins.

I will exult and be glad in thy mercy: For thou hast looked upon mine affliction; Thou hast saved my soul from distresses.

He shall judge the poor of the people in righteousness, And save the children of the needy; And shall bring low the false accuser.

Turn not man back to his low place, Whereas thou saidst, Return, ye sons of men?

This has comforted me in mine affliction: For thine oracle has quickened me.

Were it not that thy law is my meditation, Then I should have perished in mine affliction.

Look upon mine affliction, and rescue me; For I have not forgotten thy law.

For the Lord remembered us in our low estate; For his mercy endures forever:

Better is a meek-spirited man with lowliness, Than one who divides spoils with the proud.

Speak, ye priests, to the heart of Jerusalem; comfort her, for her humiliation is accomplished, her sin is put away: for she has received of the Lord’s hand double the amount of her sins.

In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken away from the earth: because of the iniquities of my people he was led to death.

she has extended her ways over the waters of the desert; she was hurried along by the lusts of her soul; she is given up to them, who will turn her back? none that seek her shall be weary; at the time of her humiliation they shall find her.

Judea is gone into captivity by reason of her affliction, And by reason of the abundance of her servitude: She dwells among the nations, She has not found rest: All her pursuers have overtaken her between her oppressors.

Jerusalem remembered the days of her affliction, And her rejection; She thought on all her desirable things Which were from the days of old, When her people fell into the hands of the oppressor, And there was none to help her: When her enemies saw it They laughed at her habitation.

Her uncleanness is before her feet; She remembered not her last end; She has lowered her boasting tone, There is none to comfort her. Behold, O Lord, my affliction: For the enemy has magnified himself.

Nevertheless in a contrite heart and a humble spirit let us be accepted. Like as in the burnt offerings of rams and bullocks, And like as in ten thousands of fat lambs:

For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.

In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.

Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.

O Lord God of heaven, behold their pride, and pity the low estate of our nation, and look upon the face of those that are sanctified unto thee this day.

And he dispersed the people, every one to their own charge; and they went unto the walls and towers of their city, and sent the women and children into their houses; and they were brought very low in the city.

And God turn these things to thee for a perpetual praise, to visit thee in good things, because thou hast not spared thy life for the affliction of our nation, but hast revenged our ruin, walking a straight way before our God. And all the people said, So be it, so be it.

For thy sanctuary is trodden down and profaned, and thy priests are in heaviness, and brought low.

And whereas thou didst often aid our fathers when hard pressed, and in low estate, and deliveredst them out of great dangers,

Whatsoever is brought upon thee take cheerfully, And be patient when thou art changed to a low estate.

For gold is tried in the fire, And acceptable men in the furnace of adversity.

Again, there is another that is slow, and hath need of help, Wanting ability, and full of poverty; Yet the eye of the Lord looked upon him for good, And set him up from his low estate,

There is an abasement because of glory; And there is that lifteth up his head from a low estate.
