And to the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy pains and thy groanings; in pain thou shalt bring forth children, and thy submission shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.

And to Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened to the voice of thy wife, and eaten of the tree concerning which I charged thee of it only not to eat—of that thou hast eaten, cursed is the ground in thy labors, in pain shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life.

And he called his name Noah, saying, This one will cause us to cease from our works, and from the toils of our hands, and from the earth, which the Lord God has cursed.

But he said, My son shall not go down with you, because his brother is dead, and he only has been left; and suppose it shall come to pass that he is afflicted by the way by which ye go, then ye shall bring down my old age with sorrow to Hades.

If then ye take this one also from my presence, and an affliction happen to him by the way, then shall ye bring down my old age with sorrow to the grave.

A wise son makes his father glad: But a foolish son is a grief to his mother.

But he that reproves boldly is a peacemaker.

It enriches him, and grief of heart shall not be added to it.

Grief mingles not with mirth; And joy in the end comes to grief.

When the heart rejoices the countenance is cheerful; But when it is in sorrow, the countenance is sad.

Give strong drink to those that are in sorrow, and the wine to drink to those in pain:

Why should ye be smitten anymore, transgressing more and more? the whole head is pained, and the whole heart sad.

and shall return, and come to Zion with joy, and everlasting joy shall be over their head; for on their head shall be praise and exultation, and joy shall take possession of them: sorrow and pain, and groaning have fled away.

He gives strength to the hungry, and sorrow to them that are not suffering.

Behold, ye all kindle a fire, and feed a flame: walk in the light of your fire, and in the flame which ye have kindled. This has happened to you for my sake; ye shall lie down in sorrow.

for by the help of the Lord they shall return, and come to Zion with joy and everlasting exultation, for praise and joy shall come upon their head: pain, and grief, and groaning, have fled away.

But Jonah was very deeply grieved, and he was confounded.

That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart.

Now when the king heard these words, he was astonished and sore moved: whereupon he laid him down upon his bed, and fell sick for grief, because it had not befallen him as he looked for.

And there he continued many days: for his grief was ever more and more, and he made account that he should die.

I perceive therefore that for this cause these troubles are come upon me, and, behold, I perish through great grief in a strange land.

And before pain is fear; and after pain, sorrow.

And afflict not thyself in thine own counsel.

And comfort thy heart, Remove sorrow far from thee: For sorrow hath killed many, And there is no profit therein.

Give testimony unto those that thou hast possessed from the beginning, And raise up prophets that have been in thy name.

Is it not a grief unto death, When a companion and friend is turned to an enemy?

Weep bitterly, and make great moan, And use lamentation, as he is worthy, And that a day or two, lest thou be evil spoken of: And then comfort thyself for thy heaviness;

For of heaviness cometh death, And the heaviness of the heart breaketh strength.

In affliction also sorrow remaineth: And the life of the poor is the curse of the heart.

Take no heaviness to heart: Drive it away, and remember the last end.

And grieve not if your soul into Sheol has descended in grief, And that in your life your body fared not according to your goodness, But wait for the day of the judgement of sinners And for the day of cursing and chastisement.

Behold, even as we, so do they die in grief and darkness, And what have they more than we ? From henceforth we are equal.
