Furthermore when Demetrius heard that Nicanor and his host were slain in battle, he sent Bacchides and Alcimus into the land of Judea the second time, and with them the chief strength of his host:

But when they of the left wing saw that they of the right wing were discomfited, they followed upon Judas and those that were with him hard at the heels from behind:

And now, when as all looked what should be the trial, and the enemies were already come near, and the army was set in array, and the beasts conveniently placed, and the horsemen set in wings,

For he called upon the most high Lord; And he gave him strength in his right hand To slay that mighty warrior, And set up the horn of his people.

For he destroyed the enemies on every side, And brought to nought the Philistines his adversaries, And broke their horn in sunder unto this day.

The Lord took away his sins, And exalted his horn forever: He gave him a covenant of kings, And a throne of glory in Israel.

For they gave their power unto others, And their glory to a strange nation.
