And Lamech took to himself two wives; the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the second Zillah.

And about sunset a trance fell upon Abram, and lo! a great gloomy terror falls upon him.

And he set over them taskmasters, who should afflict them in their works; and they built strong cities for Pharaoh, both Pithom, and Rameses, and On, which is Heliopolis.

And they gathered it every morning, each man what he needed, and when the sun waxed hot it melted.

But the hands of Moses were heavy, and they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat upon it; and Aaron and Hur supported his hands one on this side and the other on that, and the hands of Moses were supported till the going down of the sun.

But in the place which the Lord thy God shall choose, to have his name called there, thou shalt sacrifice the Passover at even at the setting of the sun, at the time when thou camest out of Egypt.

and they should go and serve other gods, and worship them, the sun, or the moon, or any of the host of heaven, which he commanded thee not to do,

And it shall come to pass toward evening he shall wash his body with water, and when the sun has gone down, he shall go into the camp.

From Jordan to the great sea westward thou shalt give it them: the great sea shall be the boundary. But to the two tribes and to the half tribe of Manasseh, to Reuben and to Gad Moses gave an inheritance beyond Jordan: Moses the servant of the Lord gave it to them eastward,

And the borders continue on to the fourth part of the Valley of Achor, and go down to Gilgal, which is before the approach of Adummim, which is southward in the valley, and terminate at the water of the fountain of the sun; and their going forth shall be the fountain of Rogel.

And the border will go round from Baalah to the sea, and will go on to the mount of Seir behind the city of Jearim northward; this is Chesalon: and it will come down to the city of the Sun, and will go on to the south.

And it will return westward from Beth-dagon, and will join Zebulun and Ekgai, and Iphtahel northward, and the borders will come to Saphthae-beth-emek, and Neiel, and will go on to Chobamasomel,

And the coasts will return westward by Aznoth-tabor, and will go out thence to Jacana, and will border on Zebulun southward, and Asher will join it westward, and Jordan eastward.

See, that I have given to you these nations that are left to you by lots to your tribes, all the nations beginning at Jordan; and some I have destroyed; and the boundaries shall be at the great sea westward.

Thus let all thine enemies perish, O Lord: And they that love him shall be as the going forth of the sun in his strength. And the land had rest forty years.

And it shall come to pass in the morning at sunrising, thou shalt rise up early and draw toward the city; and behold, he and the people with him will come forth against thee, and thou shalt do to him according to thy power.

And they journeyed in the wilderness, and compassed the land of Edom and the land of Moab: and they came by the east of the land of Moab, and encamped in the country beyond Arnon, and came not within the borders of Moab, for Arnon is the border of Moab.

Their voice is gone out into all the earth, And their words to the ends of the world.

A Psalm for Asaph. The God of gods, the Lord, has spoken, and called the earth From the rising of the sun to the going down thereof.

They shall be destroyed as melted wax: The fire has fallen and they have not seen the sun.

And he shall continue as long as the sun, And before the moon forever.

Let his name be blessed forever: His name shall endure longer than the sun: And all the tribes of the earth shall be blessed in him: All nations shall call him blessed.

The day is thine, and the night is thine; Thou hast prepared the sun and the moon.

His seed shall endure forever, And his throne as the sun before me;

He appointed the moon for seasons: The sun knows his going down.

The sun arises, and they shall be gathered together, And shall lie down in their dens.

From the rising of the sun to his setting, The name of the Lord is to be praised.

The sun shall not burn thee by day, Neither the moon by night.

The sun to rule the day; For his mercy endures forever.

Praise him, sun and moon: Praise him, all ye stars and light.

What advantage is there to a man In all his labor that he takes under the sun?

And the sun arises, and the sun goes down And draws toward its place;

What is that which has been? the very thing which shall be: And what is that which has been done? the very thing which shall be done: And there is no new thing under the sun.

I beheld all the works That were wrought under the sun; And, behold, all were vanity and waywardness of spirit.

And I examined whether my heart Would excite my flesh as with wine (Though my heart guided me in wisdom), And I desired to lay hold of mirth, Until I should see of what kind is the good to the sons of men, Which they should do under the sun All the days of their life.

And I looked on all my works Which my hands had wrought, And on my labor which I labored to perform: And, behold, all was vanity and waywardness of spirit, And there is no advantage under the sun.

So I hated life; Because the work that was wrought under the sun Was evil before me: For all is vanity and waywardness of spirit.

And I hated the whole of my labor Which I took under the sun; Because I must leave it to the man who will come after me.

And who knows whether he will be a wise man or a fool? And whether he will have power over all my labor In which I labored, and wherein I grew wise under the sun? This is also vanity.

So I went about to dismiss from my heart All my labor wherein I had labored under the sun.

For it happens to a man in all his labor, And in the purpose of his heart Wherein he labors under the sun.

And moreover I saw under the sun the place of judgment, There was the ungodly one; And the place of righteousness, There was the godly one.

So I returned, And saw all the oppressions That were done under the sun: And behold the tear of the oppressed, And they had no comforter; And on the side of them that oppressed them was power; But they had no comforter:

Better also than both these Is he who has not yet been, Who has not seen all the evil work That is done under the sun.

So I returned, and saw vanity under the sun.

I beheld all the living Who were walking under the sun, With the second youth Who shall stand up in each one’s place.

There is an infirmity which I have seen under the sun, Namely, wealth kept for its owner to his hurt.

Behold, I have seen good, that it is a fine thing for a man To eat and to drink, And to see good In all his labor in Which he may labor under the sun, All the number of the days of his life Which God has given to him: For it is his portion.

There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, And it is abundant with man:

Moreover he has not seen the sun, nor known rest: There is no more rest to this one than another.

What advantage has a man? For who knows what is good for a man in his life, During the number of the life of the days of his vanity? And he has spent them as a shadow; For who shall tell a man What shall be after him under the sun?

Wisdom is good with an inheritance: And there is an advantage by it to them that see the sun.

So I saw all this, And I applied my heart to every work That has been done under the sun; All the things wherein man has power Over man to afflict him.

Then I praised mirth, Because there is no good for a man under the sun, But to eat, and drink, and be merry: And this shall attend him In his labor all the days of his life, Which God has given him under the sun.

And I beheld all the works of God, That a man shall not be able to discover The work which is wrought under the sun; Whatsoever things a man shall endeavor to seek, However a man may labor to seek it, Yet he shall not find it; Yea, how much soever a wise man may speak of knowing it, He shall not be able to find it: For I applied all this to my heart, And my heart has seen all this.

There is this evil in all that is done under the sun, That there is one event to all: Yea, the heart of the sons of men is filled with evil, And madness is in their heart during their life, And after that they go to the dead.

Also their love, and their hatred, And their envy, have now perished; Yea, there is no portion for them anymore forever In all that is done under the sun.

And see life with the wife whom thou lovest All the days of the life of thy vanity, Which are given thee under the sun: For that is thy portion in thy life, And in thy labor wherein thou laborest under the sun.

I returned, and saw under the sun, That the race is not to the swift, Nor the battle to the strong, Nor yet bread to the wise, Nor yet wealth to men of understanding, Nor yet favor to men of knowledge; For time and chance will happen to them all.

This I also saw to be wisdom under the sun, And it is great before me:

There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, Wherein an error has proceeded from the ruler.

Moreover the light is sweet, And it is good for the eyes to see the sun.

While the sun and light are not darkened, Nor the moon and the stars; Nor the clouds return after the rain:

Look not upon me, because I am dark, Because the sun has looked unfavorably upon me: My mother’s sons strove with me; They made me keeper in the vineyards; I have not kept my own vineyard.

Who is this that looks forth as the morning, Fair as the moon, choice as the sun, Terrible as armies set in array?

even Syria from the rising of the sun, and the Greeks from the setting of the sun, who devour Israel with open mouth. For all this his anger is not turned away, but still his hand is exalted.
