Hello Richard,
I noticed https://www.searchearlychristianwritings.online/ is no longer available online. Are you aware of this? It has been a very helpful resource. I appreciate the hard work you put into this.
Kevin
Hello Kevin,
thanks for letting me know, I didn't notice. I don't look into the website quite so frequently, therefore I appreciate any hints even more. The same thing has happened before, but I'm not sure why. Please give me a few days to fix it
Fortunately, I could fix the error.
On that occasion I slightly changed the introduction and added the most frequently alluded verses, chapters and books. I already posted them here in the forums, so that's nothing really new either. Thanks for using the website and please contact me anytime if it breaks again.
My website www.searchearlychristianwritings.online received a major update!
This update involved a great amount of work and will hopefully help you to get a better overview of the Early Christian Writings. The new fetures are:
- New Writings Overview
- Fixed many missing texts and footnotes and other text errors
- Classified all writings as genuine, uncertain or spurious, distinguished editor's comments.
- Added option to exlude editor's annotations or spurious writings from Scripute Reference Search or Text Search
- Search results now show author and writing name instead of just author name
- Added personally recommended readings
- Added function to anonymously recommend authors, books or chapters for yourself. The number of recommendations will be seen by everyone
- Added Report Error button to inform me more easilty if you encounter any error
- Changes in website appearance
As always, I'm glad for any feedback.
God bless you,
Richard.
This is an awesome resource! Thank you @richard_erhardt
Brother thank you for your site 🙂
It helps me when I study the Bible, I use your "Scripture References" Search Tool and it is amazing, how fast I can jump from one Early Christian to another to see how they interpret or use the Bible verse(s) I was reading.
@slopez66 and @road thank you so much. Don't forget to recommend some of your favorite chapters, it's just a click!
Hi Richard,
For some reason when I try to use the site, a "privacy error" message pops up. Maybe this is unique to my device, but in case it's not, or there's a way to fix it, I thought I'd ask.
Hm this is weird cause it happens to me too, just on other websites. Not this one.
I'm sorry everyone! Once again it was a problem on my side, should be fixed now.
Thanks for fixing it! And thanks for the work you've put into the website, I've found it to be extremely valuable.
Apocrypha support added!
You can now search for references in the Ante-Nicene Fathers to the Deuterocanonical books of the Old Testament.

Thank you so much for adding the deuterocanonical books to the website! What a blessing! I was actually going to make a request for it, and then you added it. God bless!
Hello Cody Sorensen, thanks for your feedback. I'm glad you find it useful. Note that there are several more for first Esdras in the ANF, but I cannot include them for their citation style (refer only to page numbers in another collection in the CCEL library).
I still warmly invite anyone to find your favourite early Christian writing or chapter and recommend it to others! It's just a click on the button! The stars indicate how many have been placed. So far no one has used it (all existing recommendations were done by me).
I'm really sorry for the 3 weeks website downtime. I had prepared another update but something went wrong on uploading it and I had to reinstall the server and change several technical things. Unfortunately some recommendations are lost, I'm sorry for that.
The website is online again with these new features:
- New text search engine. Previous results have been poor at times, especially when words like "is", "of" etc. were included. The new engine weighs words by their uniqueness and provides more advanced search options. It will also preview a significant section of the chapter in the result list if you hover your mouse or tap on a line.
- Similar chapters. A new button at the bottom of the reader shows chapters that are most similar in vocabulary, computed by text analysis software.
- Go to Page or Footnote. References to page or footnote numbers in the ANF are now easy to find from the More Search page. This may be especially helpful when you work with the Dictionary of Early Christian Beliefs.
- Layout for printing a chapter to paper (from your browser) has been optimized.
I think that's enough updates for some time. God bless you all and I pray we come to read those writings which are most enriching to each of us.
I would like to see a in depth look into how the early Church viewed the nation of Israel, seeing how there was no earthly Jerusalem for most of the Church age. Would like to also learn what they might have expected of the earthly Jerusalem as the end was fast approaching. I think it would be helpful to educate ourselves on this seeing what is happening right now.
Thanks for your request. My first recommendation is to listen to the two part message from David Bercot about Israel, if you haven't already. There may be other summaries of what they believed out there, but I cannot recommend any at the moment. On this website you won't find any topical studies or summaries. I decided against that, mainly because it would be too much work for me to create any comprehensive index, and second because it would end up biased anyway. Over the recent years I discovered that I had a simplified view on many points. That's why I believe it's better to provide some tools for people to study by themselves rather than share my personal opinions about what they believed. After all, I'm not a scholar.
What you could do is search for relevant scriptures and see how they understood them. Or search for words like "nation israel". Most of what you will find will probably not apply to your question, so be prepared to put some amount of work into it.
Thank you, I just don’t think many Christians living in our time ever think of Israel not being there for much of history after Christ. I’ll look into it more for sure.
