Interesting discussion. I will admit that I had never really taken the annihilationist position seriously until this discussion. I took Jesus in John chapter 5 and Paul in 1 Corinthians 15 as implying that a human cannot be annihilated after the resurrection and judgment, but I had not considered the annihilation of the soul but continuance of the body. I still maintain the traditional view. I also think Irenaeus' comments in Against Heresies about John 3 indicating the judgment involves people subjectively turning from the light, but the light remaining what it is, more convincingly accounts for passages about God being love yet it being subjectively perceived by the unrighteous as torment, though God never actively torments anyone.
