Bible Verses About Thecla And Virginity

Early Christian writers strongly praise virginity and celibacy as a high Christian calling, especially in Hermas, Ignatius, Athenagoras, Cyprian, Tertullian, Origen, and Methodius. Several Bible passages tied to this topic also support virginity as a valued state, including 1 Corinthians 7 and passages about Mary's virginity. The evidence is much weaker for Thecla herself: these passages do not give a clear early Christian witness about Thecla by name, so any claim about her must stay indirect.

The best-supported conclusion is that early Christians often honored virginity, but this set does not firmly document a distinct early tradition about Thecla and virginity specifically.
