Bible Verses About The Wrath Of God And Judgment

Early Christian writers regularly taught that God’s wrath and judgment are real, just, and tied to human sin and repentance. Writers like Ignatius, Justin Martyr, Irenaeus, Origen, Cyprian, Tertullian, Hippolytus, Theophilus, and Lactantius linked this judgment to Bible passages such as Romans 2:5, Romans 1:18, John 3:36, and Revelation 14–16. The evidence is broad across the 1st to 3rd centuries, and it also shows an important pattern:

several writers said God is not ruled by human-like passion, but that “wrath” names his righteous judgment and punishment. The witness is strong overall, though some lines are indirect because they quote Scripture more than they explain the doctrine in their own words.
