Bible Verses About The Valentinians And Gnostic Heresy

Early Christian writers strongly rejected the Valentinians and treated their teaching as heresy, not Christianity. Irenaeus named Valentinus and said his school was false and baseless, while Tertullian called the Valentinians a large body of heretics; Hippolytus likewise said Valentinus drew from Greek philosophy, not the Gospels. Clement of Alexandria also spoke against those “falsely called Gnostics,” and several writers tied this false teaching to pride, hidden doctrine, and a distorted use of knowledge.

The evidence is broad and consistent on condemnation, but weaker on one single shared description of every Valentinian belief, since the details vary by author and some passages focus more on philosophy, baptism, or Christology than on the full system.
