Bible Verses About The New Covenant In Christ

Early Christians taught that the new covenant came through Christ, fulfilled the promises made through Jeremiah and the prophets, and brought Gentiles into God’s people. Justin Martyr, Irenaeus, Tertullian, Clement of Alexandria, Cyprian, and Lactantius all connect the new covenant to Jesus, His death, and the change from the old order to the new. The witness is broad across the 2nd and 3rd centuries and is strongest where these writers quote Jeremiah 31, Hebrews 8–9, and the words of Jesus at the supper.

Some texts focus on covenant change, some on the cup and blood of Christ, and some on the Gentiles’ place in the covenant, so the evidence is broad but not all on one exact point.
