Bible Verses About The Mosaic Law

Early Christian writers mostly treated the Mosaic Law as real and God-given, but said it was given for a time and was fulfilled in Christ. Justin Martyr, Irenaeus, Tertullian, Origen, and others often said the law belonged first to Israel, that some commands were tied to hardness of heart or to a training role, and that the new covenant brought a fuller way of life.

Several writers also kept stressing that Christ did not erase the law’s purpose but brought it to its goal, while some commands, especially moral ones, still mattered. The evidence is broad across the second and third centuries, but it is mixed on how much of the Mosaic Law was binding after Christ and how much was symbolic, temporary, or fulfilled. A few Bible passages paired with these writers point in the same direction: the law was a guardian until Christ, and Christ is the end of the law for righteousness.
