Bible Verses About The Mass And The Eucharist

Early Christian writers taught that the Eucharist was not ordinary bread and wine, but a holy meal tied to Christ’s body and blood, often linked to sacrifice, remembrance, and church unity. Justin Martyr, Ignatius, Irenaeus, Cyprian, and later liturgical texts all speak this way, and the Bible passages in 1 Corinthians 10–11, Luke 22, Mark 14, and Matthew 26 are the main scriptural base.

The picture is broad and early, especially in the second and third centuries, though some writers stress the Eucharist as a spiritual sacrifice and memorial more than a repeat of the Lord’s Supper. The strongest witnesses also connect proper reception with baptism, church order, and reverence. A few passages are more indirect or typological, but the central teaching is clear and widely repeated.
