Bible Verses About The Lake Of Fire And Final Judgment

Early Christians widely taught that the wicked face a final judgment that ends in everlasting fire, the lake of fire, or the second death. Justin Martyr, Irenaeus, Hippolytus, Tertullian, Cyprian, and Lactantius all speak this way, and they regularly connect it to Revelation 20–21 and Matthew 25:41. The evidence is broad and strong for a real, future punishment of the ungodly; it is thinner for exact details about the lake of fire itself beyond the Bible texts they quote.

A few writers also use fire for cleansing or world-ending judgment, but the main witness here is punishment for the wicked after resurrection and judgment.
