Bible Verses About The Greeks And Pagan Wisdom

Early Christian writers usually treated Greek philosophy as limited, mixed, or false when it tried to stand against Christ, but some also said it could prepare people for the gospel. Justin Martyr, Clement of Alexandria, Origen, Tertullian, Hippolytus, and Lactantius all contrast human or “worldly” wisdom with the wisdom of God, often using 1 Corinthians 1–3 and Colossians 2.

Clement and Justin are more open to philosophy as a stepping-stone, while Tertullian and Lactantius are far more critical of it as empty or foolish. So the pattern is broad and strong: pagan wisdom is not the final authority, but a few writers allow it a limited place under Christ.
