Bible Verses About The Great Mother

Early Christian writers mostly used the Great Mother as an example of pagan religion, not as a Christian figure to follow. Justin Martyr, Athenagoras, Tatian, Aristides, Arnobius, Minucius Felix, Tertullian, Lactantius, and others describe Cybele, Rhea, or the Mother of the Gods in the context of idol worship, mystery rites, and attacks on pagan myths.

The strongest evidence is about pagan ceremonies tied to Cybele/Mater Magna, while the Bible passages are mostly background for female imagery, idolatry, or mother language rather than direct teaching about the Great Mother. Evidence for a Christian belief that embraces the Great Mother is thin, and some matches are only verbal or refer to unrelated mother language. Overall, the page supports a clear early Christian critique of the Great Mother cult, but not a distinct Christian doctrine about her.
