Bible Verses About The Divinity Of Christ

Early Christian writers taught that Christ is truly divine, not a mere man or a created being. Ignatius of Antioch, Justin Martyr, Irenaeus, Tertullian, Origen, Novatian, Victorinus, Gregory Thaumaturgus, Cyprian, and Lactantius all speak of Christ as God, the Word, or sharing in the one divine nature. The strongest and broadest witnesses come from the 2nd and 3rd centuries, and they connect Christ’s divinity to Bible passages like John 1:1, John 20:28, Romans 9:5, Hebrews 1:3, and Colossians 2:9.

Some writers also stress his real humanity, so the teaching is not that he only seemed divine, but that he is both truly God and truly man. A few passages are only indirect or text-matching background, but the main line of evidence is broad and clear.
